ABSTRACT
This Master’s Degree dissertation called "Final Years of Elementary School Teachers’
Viewpoints on Educational Special Needs Students and their Inclusion in Regular Classroom"
deals with the viewpoints of the teachers’representations on these kinds of students.
It took place in an Elementary School in the south of the country with approximately seven
hundred students, being twenty-two of them educational special needs students.
A study on the above topic is relevant, taking into account that, in a wide-ranging view on the
subject, the school practices can get new meanings, bringing new possibilities and an
enhancement to education and to society as a whole.
The research started by developing the theorethical basis on inclusion and integration, the
pedagogical aspects of the inclusion, the representations - especially the ones concerning the
educational special needs students and their inclusion in regular classroom ; also, on some
assumptions about the Speech Analysis, of French origin, whose main author is Michel
Pêcheux. Afterwards, the work methodology was presented by means of interviews, analysis
of the evaluation reports and by observing the teachers’ meetings.
The theoretical aspects approached and the teachers’ reports supplied information for the
analyses, which, taking the main issue of the study as the starting-point, were carried out using
some assumptions about the Speech Analysis. Rosita Edler Carvalho, Rosana Glat and Hugo
Otto Beyer are outstanding authors regarding the foundation for the study. Concerning the
representations, studies on Social Psychology were made use of , bringing meaningful
contributions to the reflections related to the subjects’representations, mainly the ones of
Moscovici and Jovchelovitch. As to the representations on the educational special needs ones,
researches were done on the studies of Ivanilde Apoluceno de Oliveira .
It is possible to assure that the teachers’speeches are associated with their own condition of
producing them, taking into consideration the position held , the relation with the immediate
contexts , together with the ideological and socio-historical ones ; as well as that these
speeches have an influence upon the position of the ones with special needs in society .
Therefore, it matters to us that the reflections , based upon the teachers’ speeches, lead to the
construction of new senses, enabling social representations’new meanings.
